PaulKidsRights International Children’s Peace Prize 2024
The International Children’s Peace Prize (ICPP) is awarded annually to a child who fights courageously for children’s rights.
The world’s most prestigious youth prize was launched by KidsRights during the 2005 World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates at the Capitol in Rome, chaired by Mikhail Gorbachev. Since then, the prize has been presented every year by a Nobel Peace Laureate. The International Children’s Peace Prize is an initiative of Marc Dullaert, Chairman and Founder of the KidsRights Foundation.
Since the inception of the International Children’s Peace Prize, we have been honoured to have 19 ICPP winners from 17 different countries, on 5 different continents. They include Asia, Africa, Europe, North America and South America.
In 2022 over 2,2 billion people were reached through media.
THE EMPOWERMENT OF YOUNG CHANGEMAKERS
All winners have shown a remarkable commitment to combating problems millions of children face worldwide. The motivation behind the prize is to provide a platform for children to express their ideas and personal involvement in children’s rights. KidsRights feels that children should be recognized, awarded and motivated in their fierce efforts to improve their own situation and that of the children in their environment and even the world.
GLOBAL PLATFORM
The world’s most prestigious youth prize recognizes the achievements of the young winner. It also offers the winner a global platform to promote their ideals and further his work. With the newfound attention, these young heroes’ messages reach an international audience of millions. This global attention will generate a higher level of cooperation and structural improvement for the realisation of children’s rights.
THE PRIZE
The winner receives the statuette ‘Nkosi’, which shows how a child sets the world in motion. This statuette, designed by Inge Ikink, is named after our very first winner, Nkosi Johnson. The winner also receives a study and care grant and a worldwide platform to promote their ideals and causes to the benefit of children’s rights. Furthermore, a project fund of €100,000 is invested by KidsRights in projects that are closely connected to the winners’ area of work.
The winner receives a scholarship from KidsRights to enable him or her to obtain education up until and including the university degree. Secondly, financial care is made available to support the winner and his or her family in livelihood costs, where needed. Read more here.
International Children’s Peace Prize Project Fund
The Children’s Peace Prize is accompanied by a project fund of €100,000. Each year this fund is invested by KidsRights in projects that are closely connected to the winner’s area of work.
Aim and Benefits
The KidsRights International Children’s Peace Prize stands as a beacon of recognition for children who demonstrate unwavering courage in the fight for children’s rights. The laureate receives:
- The “Nkosi” Statuette: Symbolizing a child setting the world in motion, this statuette represents the transformative impact that young individuals can have on society.
- Desmond Tutu Study and Care Fund: This fund is dedicated to facilitating the child’s education, empowering them with the knowledge and skills to continue their advocacy journey.
- Project Fund of €100,000: KidsRights invests this fund in children’s rights projects closely aligned with the laureate’s area of work. This financial support contributes to the realization of tangible initiatives for the betterment of children’s lives.
- Global Platform: Winning the International Children’s Peace Prize provides the laureate with a global platform to amplify their advocacy efforts. The message reaches a vast audience, as exemplified by the 2021 winner, Nav and Vhiaan, whose message touched 3.5 billion people worldwide.
Requirements
To be eligible for nomination, a child must meet the following criteria:
- Age: Above 12 years and under 18 years of age; the child should not be older than 17 years by the time of the nomination deadline.
- Global Representation: From any part of the world, emphasizing the global nature of the award.
- Proven Advocacy: The child must have a clear track record of standing up and actively fighting for the rights of themselves and other children. Their active approach should have yielded concrete results.
- Communication Skills: Ability to travel abroad and feel comfortable communicating with diverse groups of people.
- Nomination Agreement: The child must agree to being nominated for the International Children’s Peace Prize.
Note: Group nominations are accepted, provided that each individual in the group made a provable effort and co-initiated activities that resulted in an exceptional difference for the rights of the child and the position of vulnerable children globally. Organizations as a whole will not be considered.

Interested individuals or organizations can nominate a child for review by the Expert Committee. The nomination process involves filling out a nomination form, available in six different languages, accessible on the KidsRights website.
